Department Of Pharmaceutical Technology and Biopharmaceutics, CMUJ
Department of Pharmaceutical Technology and Biopharmaceutics CMUJ under the leadership of Prof. dr hab. Renata Jachowicz conduct research work related to:
- solubility improvement for poorly soluble drugs: solid dispersions, microemulsions, self-emulsifying and self-microemulsifying drug delivery systems (SEDDS/SMEDDS)
- development of multi-compartment systems (microparticles, microemulsions, microspheres, pellets, floating granulates) to improve availability of drug substance
- testing of excipients with advanced analytical methods
- heuristic modeling and computational intelligence for optimization of various dosage forms
Department of Biophisics and Molecular Physics, Institute of Physics, University of Silesia
Prof. Marian Paluch’s research group in Broadband Dielectric Spectroscopy Laboratory investigates molecular dynamics of various materials, i.e., pharmaceuticals, polymers, ionic materials, ceramics, etc. The main goal of these investigations is to work out the thorough characterization of molecular mechanisms of different phenomena which can occur in these materials such as liquid-glass transition, crystallization, polymerization, tautomerization of drugs or mutarotation of sugars.
The dielectric spectroscopy laboratory is well equipped with the advanced apparatuses which enable to monitor the molecular mobility reflected in relaxation processes over a wide frequency range up to 16 decades, at different temperatures and pressures. It should be emphasized that the unique high pressure dielectric laboratory is recognized as the world-leading laboratory in studying the relaxation dynamics of materials under ambient and high pressure. Moreover, the laboratory is equipped with the high quality standard and temperature modulated differential scanning calorimeters, which enable to detect the phase transitions that occur in examined materials as well as to study their thermodynamic properties and correlations between the dynamic and thermodynamic parameters, which are very useful, for instance, to determine the physical stability of amorphous pharmaceuticals.

Klaster LifeScience Kraków
LifeScience Klaster Krakow (LSK) is the network of institutions from Krakow and Małopolska Region (Poland) which agreed to collaborate in order to develop and deliver to the market innovations in the field of life sciences.
These organizations represent six areas of interests: biotechnology and life science business, research & development, science and education, healthcare, business support and local government actively guiding and facilitating the cooperation at the regional level.
Established in October 2006, LSK has been the concept of Jagiellonian University developed in conjunction with another bold decision taken in 2004 — to build first technology park in Poland be devoted to life sciences.
Since the very beginning the LSK has been considered as the research driven collaborative network aiming to pursue following mission.
- to create and sustain a life science network in order to enable effective global connectivity and the optimization of existing potential of individuals and organizations
- to support innovation and to encourage effective commercialization of research results in the life science field
- to develop the resources and competences in order to effectively explore existing and future opportunities related to development of a knowledge-based economy.
